Propeller Optimization of ducted fan VTOL Aircrafts

January 15, 2018

A design optimization was carried out on ducted fan propellers, chord and twist distribution was parametrized by quadratic spline method. An optimization problem was formulated to find a better hovering efficiency configuration subjecting to a thrust constraint. The analysis was carried out by Computational Fluild Dynamics(CFD) with the help of Kirging surrogate based optimization method. The output propeller and newly designed energy system can carry the UAV to fly above 4000 meters altitude read more

Design Optimization of an aircraft for AIAA Deisgn·Build·Fly Competition

September 13, 2017

An aircraft design optimnization was performed for AIAA DBF. The score model of the competition draw special concern as that both geometry paramters and mission performance were involved in, and the contradiction effect of these parameters specified that a design optimization must be performed. An aircraft preliminary design coupled with mission planning framework was built based on PyADAO to find a design that could get the highest score. A tandem wing configuration was chosen for the final design. read more

Construction of an aircraft design, analysis and optimization framework: PyADAO

December 11, 2016

The fast improvement of aerodynamic shape optimization methedologies (e.g geometric parametrization, Adjoint method, surrogate models) has introduced the change that many “state-of-the-art” methods can be used at the very beginning of an aircraft design, even in conceptual design process. While many opensource tools like OpenMDAO, SU2 are widely used, a framework must be consturcted to properly wrap these tools and offer a flexible enviroments for design and optimization problem formulation. Thus a Python based aircraft design, analysis, optimization framework was consturcted. read more

Direct Lift Control (DLC) of a Box-wing aircraft

May 11, 2016

Box wing aircraft have several appealing advanteages like siginicantlty reduced wingspan and more compact wing structures. Besides, the existence of the two wings have also introduced the capability of direct lift control(DLC). To explore the potential value of this and gain knowledges about box wing design, a team was built and a National University Student Innovation Program was applied to fund the research. Several box wing aircrafts was design and built. A DFC control Law was also designed by parametric identifications based on flight tests. DFC flight tests were performed and the data was analyzed. It was shown that the DFC for box wing aircraft has potential values for overload controls like gust alleviation, while it has limited capablity to change the trajectory of the aircraft as the control force will soon be cancelled out by the change of aircraft angle of attack. read more

Airbus ‘Fly Your Ideas’ Competition 2015

August 11, 2015

As a global competition, Airbus ‘Fly Your Ideas’ challenges students worldwide to innovate for the future of aviation and shows growing concern for students of all backgrounds. As one the participant teams in 2015, team AFT-BURNER-REVERSER designed an anti-collision system for aircrafts to be able to detect and prevent potential collisions on the ground. The system was validated through a prototype and the appealing work made us selected as one of the five finalists teams. And we’re also proud that we’re the only one team that made up of all bachalers. read more
